Delois Barrett Cambell Celebrates 84th Birthday!

I was on my way to take care of some business on Saturday while listening to the radio an announcement was made that Delois Barrett Campbell would be celebrating her 84nd birthday on Sunday March 9. I smiled to myself and said, "I'm going to be in the house!"  Delois Barrett Campbell and the Barret Sister are Chicago's gospel living legions and there was no way that I would miss Delois's Birthday celebration.  Her birthday celebration was going to be a First Churh of Deliverance on 43rd and Wabash. This was a landmark and this is where many of the gospel legions performed back in the day... To Make Chicago the Gospel capital of The World, Roberta Martin, Mahalia  Jackson, Thomas Dorsey and many many more have shared their music ministry at this church.

 As I was heading to the church I was thinking about the many times I have seen the Barrett Sisters minister in song over the years and smiled thinking of the many times I visited their home to break bread and have a holy ghost party for the cook outs and so on. Thinking to myself that through it all how thay have stayed together over the years. Sharing their tight harmonies for kings, queens and royalties around the world. Listening to all of the stories of the places they have been and Delois will have you in stitches because she has a unique way of telling her stories.

I can say that there was no disappointment as they came and made the announcement that they would only sing three selections and get on out of the way... We ll you know that didn't happen but many of the guest joined in and we had a hallelujah time in the Lord. And yes, they still have the same harmony today that they had years ago. On fact Don Jackson the man behind the Stellar Awards made an announcement that his company would put together a special DVD featuring the Barrett Sisters over the years. He also stated that artist like the Barrett Sisters and The Queen of Gospel Albertina Walker not only paved the way for gospel music they were also responsible for helping the Sellars Award to be what it is today.  

In closing I will say that I was blessed beyond works as the tears rolled down my checks as you could feel the anointing of each song that came freom deep within Delois, Rodena and Billy. Delois only has to things that she would like to do before she goes home to be with the Lord sing on the Oprah Wnfret Show and perform at the White House For Obama. So come on people lets get registered to vote and make it happen.
